during the establishment of the colony. For colonies of
Ekaterinoslav guberniya before the official name
specifies its official serial number. Then in brackets
it is given the informal name of colony. Further is
specified the name received by a colony as a result of
renaming during the Soviet period.
ColoniesTrudolyubovka and Nechayevka
have been destroyed as a result of pogroms in January,
1919 and after civil war were not restored. Sagaydak,
Gromokley, Veselaya, Roskoshnaya and Gorkaya have
disappeared from a map in 1950's - 60 years when there
was no Jewish population any more. To these years in
Soviet Union was spent the policy of liquidation of
unpromising villages and creations in a countryside the
large settlements.

Bobrovyy Kut - Jewish
colony of Kherson Guberniya and Kherson uezd, on the
left bank of the river Ingulets, in 65 versts from the
city of Kherson. Jews from Mogilev guberniya have
established the colony in 1807. They moved and settled
at their own charge. Jews were attracted here by the
privileges of the published "Statute" 1804 by which
Alexander the Blessed wanted to improve the situation of
jews. According to revision 1810 in Bobrovyy Kut lived
454 (86 families) persons (239 m. and 215 f.); colony
had 14.000 dessiatinas of land. Then first a government
gave out a benefit in cash to some poor families.
Because of different unfavorable circumstances a colony
could not develop. In 1860th more than 2000 jews dwelt
here, and according to information of 1885 only 262 and
302 employable men and women, In all with children are
1204 persons (104 families), arable land - 2351
dessiatinas, horse - more than 200, sheep and cattle -

Bobrovyy Kut (Bobrovskiy Kut) -
Jewish agricultural colony of Kherson Guberniya and
Kherson uezd, on the bank of the river Ingulets, Jews
from Mogilev guberniya have established the colony in
1807, settled at their own charge; statistical
information about gradual growth, and then decline of
colony, not fully reliable: in 1810 a revision found 86
families (239 m. and 215 f.), in 1815 counted 165
families (416 и 327) with 14.000 dessiatinas of land,
but in 1825 870 persons, of which 429 followed the
agriculture; in 1825, 1837 and 1841 new settlers arrived
in a colony but however a colony could not develop.
According to population census 1897 number of people was
1469, of them 1284 Jews. At an inspection of Jewish
Colonization Society in 1898-99 appeared: available
families of farmers - 185, available persons - 1103;
land of colony - 2910 dessiatinas; allotted land of

agricultural colony of Kherson Guberniya and Kherson
uezd. In 1898 available families of farmers - 210,
available persons - 1146; colonists heartily follow the
agriculture. Land of colony - 3360 dessiatinas; allotted
land of available families - 2709 dessiatinas. According
to population census 1897 number of people was 1570, of
them 1284 Jews. There is (1910) colonial school

Malaya Seydemenukha - Jewish agricultural
colony of Kherson Guberniya. According to population
census 1897 number of people was 520, of them 502 Jews.
As at disposal of colonists little necessary
instruments, the fields are processed unsatisfactorily.
Considerable part of farmers is engaged in handicrafts
also. There are a lot of glass-cutters special.
According to information of Jewish Colonization Society
in 1898 total person 454; 858 dessiatinas of land.
Children study in kheders and in private school

Nagartav, Bolshoy and Malyy - Jewish agricultural colonies of Kherson Guberniya and Kherson uezd. Both colonies are located at
the river Visun. In Bolshoy Nagartav there is administration (попечительство) оf jewish colonies of Kherson Guberniya. Thus this colony is a place of central management of all colonies. Near-by Bolshoy Nagartav is the large settlement Bereznegovatyy, in
which are large fairs. Due to this settlement the habitants of colony have earnings from carrier's business and from market. Colonists follow the plough. In 1898 available families of farmers - 149, of which 132 families followed the plough; available persons - 924; allotted land of available families - 2215 dessiatinas. There are school and 2 synagogues. Colony Malyy Nagartav joins to the colony Bolshoy Nagartav. In 1898 available families of farmers - 42, of which 37 followed the plough; available persons - 287; land of available families - 760 dessiatinas. According to population census 1897 number of people in both colonies was 1711, of them 1571 Jews. In 1899 (on April, 23) the peasants of Bereznegovatogo made pogrom in Bolshoy Nagartav; it was destroyed property of Jews to the amount of 30 thousand of roubles (Хрон. Восхода, 1899 г., № 18) [5].

Dobraya (Novenkaya), colony of Jews at pond on the gully Dobrenkaya, to the left of Kherson-Elisavetgrad tract, Kherson uezd, in charge of police officer of camp 1. Dobraya (Dobroe) - one of the largest colonies of Kherson guberniya, founded among 10 first colonies of this guberniya in the period of (allotted land - 5170 dessiatinas and reserve - 1723 dessiatinas). In 1859 (X revision) in colony counted 102 Jewish
agricultural families with 740 person; According to information of Jewish Colonization Society in 1898-99 available families - 293 and 1676 person with 3600 dessiatinas of allotted land, of which only 2760 was in actual at the disposal of farmers; families followings
the agriculture - 270, They had 2503 dessiatinas of allotted land. Competent in Russian - 515 person, only Yidish - 167; there is school, but only 1/4 children of school age learned in school. Public charges of colony including all of taxes and duties, maintenance of rural police, mails, hospitals, schools and charges on a religious cult have attained in 1898-99 8590 roubles.

colony in the Kherson Guberniya , by river Ingul;
основана в 1809; поселилось 48 семейств в составе 276
душ. According to population census 1897 number of
people was 2226, of them 2038 Jews. In 1898 available
families of farmers - 267; available persons 1666. Crop
failures happen often. Terms for development of the
truck farming and viticulture are favorable. There is

Ingulets - Jewish agricultural
colony of Kherson Guberniya and Kherson uezd arising up
in 1809. About 90 families were counted in 1812.
According to population census 1897 number of people was
2781, of them 2696 Jews. According to information of
Jewish Colonization Society in 1898 available families
of farmers - 367, available persons 2262; land of
available families 3426 dessiatinas. There is public

geographical error connecting a colony with the river

of Kherson Guberniya and Kherson uezd. A colony by
improvement and menage is considered one of the best in
neighbourhood. Immigrants from Kurlyandiya guberniya.
Colonists are receptive to introduction of improvements
in agriculture. In 1898 available families of farmers -
242, available persons - 1427; allotted land of
available families - 2506 dessiatinas. According to
population census 1897 number of people was 2179, of
them 1959 Jews. There is school of Department of peoples
Education. School dissatisfies the necessities of local
population; fifth part of children is barely placed in
it; other are taught by melameds. There are 2
synagogues, pharmacy and doctor recipient a salary from
colonists. In 1902 at instigation of baron G. O.
Gintsburg in three versts from colony the agricultural
school costing ninety thousand rubls is opened; hostel
for sixty pupils; the course of studies is three year. A
ministry gave for school 300 dessiatinas of land.

Zelenoe Pole (Zelenopole) -
Jewish agricultural colony, Mariupol uezd, Ekaterinoslav
guberniya. established in 1853 come from Mogilev and
Vilno and Vitebsk guberniyas. According to population
census 1897 number of people was 729, of them 658 Jews.
In 1901 601 Jews had in use 1.290 dessiatinas. There is
synagogue and public bathhouse. In 1906 according to
official information the pupils - 23 b., 44 g. (см.
Екатерин. губ.) [5].

1896 - 115, persons - 693; allotted land - 1170
dessiatinas and leasehold - 690. According to population
census 1897 number of people 719, of them 634 Jews.
According to territorial population census 1901
available persons - 574; alloted and purchased land -
1360 dessiatinas, leasehold - 604 dessiatinas. There is
(1910) one jewish school [5].

Yaly, homesteads - 74, number of people - 602; village
prikaz (board); to uezd town 45 verst; synagogue. In 3
verst-school [2].
Zatishye - Jewish agricultural
colony, Mariupol uezd, Ekaterinoslav guberniya,
established in 1853 come from Mogilev and Vitebsk
guberniyas. In 1890 colonists had 1600 dessiatinas, in
1901 - 1944. According to population census 1897 number
of people was 708, of them 527 Jews; in 1906 - 685. In
1906 - pupils: 34 b. and 60 g. There is synagogue,
bathhouse, philanthropy [5].

Ravnopol - Jewish
agricultural colony, Mariupol uezd, Ekaterinoslav
guberniya. Number of families in 1858 - 42; to 1th
January 1897 families - 75; according to population
census 1897 number of people - 544, of them 447 Jews. In
the use of colonists is near 1300 dessiatinas of land
[5].
